The Redmen TV – Match Preview: Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur

Anfield, 20:00 Saturday

Match Preview:

Tuesday evening’s Anfield meeting brings together the Premier League’s form sides, as Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur face-off separated by 7 points in 7th and 5th respectively.  The Reds are unbeaten in eight league matches and have taken 11 points from their last five, being held only at home to Leicester City and away to Everton at the weekend.  Mauricio Pochettino’s side have taken 12 from five; impressive home victories against Chelsea and Arsenal only let down by a 2-1 defeat away to Crystal Palace.  With Chelsea clear at the top of the table, both sides are fighting the same battle for Champions League qualification during the remainder of the campaign.  Only West Ham United – away to Southampton on Wednesday evening – can catch Liverpool, whom goal-difference determines cannot improve upon 7th this weekend; Brendan Rodgers’s side could be within 3 or 5 points of 3rd by Thursday but can scarcely afford to fall more than their current 6 points adrift.  Spurs’ Derby victory on Saturday has put them in a strong position but – currently within 2 points of 3rd – they’ll be keen not to see the gap to 4th open to 4 points.  There may be almost four months of Premier League football remaining but supporters of both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur will recognise Tuesday’s meeting, between the form-sides in a five-way battle for two places, as of vital importance.

Opposition XI:

Ahead of Tuesday’s meeting, The Redmen TV spoke once again with Spurs supporter and friend of the show Andrew Williams – thanks to Andrew for providing his insight:

Andrew:  “I don’t think either would have expected us to be the two form teams in the league a couple of months ago. Both have had a good run since Christmas, appear to have settled into a rhythm, and have emerging young players. It should be a great game!”

Mauricio Pochettino arrived having impressed at Southampton and his methods appear to be yielding progress – what have you learned about your Manager so far?
