The Redmen TV – Match Preview: Crystal Palace vs Liverpool

Selhurst Park,

20:00 Monday

Selhurst Park is guaranteed to house one of the best atmospheres of the entire season under the floodlights on Monday evening – in their final home match, supporters will be celebrating Crystal Palace’s excellent season, in which they have comfortably ensured survival, whilst the travellers will be seeking to re-affirm belief in their side after last weekend’s Anfield disappointment.  The sides are separated by ten league positions and 37 points, but that those positions are 11th and 1st with two games to spare is a late-season bonus neither Crystal Palace nor Liverpool would have expected nine months ago.  Tony Pulis’ side recently enjoyed their first top-flight run of five successive victories since 1992, featuring wins at home to Chelsea and away at Everton, before being defeated at home to Manchester City last weekend – they’ve taken 12 points from their last five.  Brendan Rodgers’ side’s eleven game winning streak ended at home to Chelsea last weekend, taking the title out of their hands – they too have taken 12 from five, having previously been unbeaten in the league during 2014.  Palace supporters will feel relaxed about whatever comes their way during the final two matches of the campaign but a top-half finish, a first since 1992, is a real possibility – Stoke City and Newcastle United are both within reach this weekend, as a potential 9th place beckons with victory in their final home match.  Liverpool supporters may find their side 3rd in the table by Sunday evening – 2nd place is entirely within their hands but the Reds would truly welcome their Blue neighbours restoring their title-challenge control by keeping hold of at least a point at Goodison Park on Saturday evening.
