Sunday’s Anfield meeting between Liverpool and Manchester City is, understandably, being billed as 2013-14’s title decider and, for one set of supporters, it represents an occasion that sees their side back where they belong and, for another, represents an occasion whereby supporters may revel in the most unlikeliest of scenarios. The hosts continued their remarkable run of league victories last weekend, now nine games over more than two months, and are fourteen league matches unbeaten – City, meanwhile, have lost just once in their last twenty and have taken 13 points from their last five. Both the Reds and their visitors have their title ambitions within their own hands – Brendan Rodgers’ side must win to ensure that status continues into the final three games of the season, whilst Manuel Pellegrini’s side assume control if they avoid defeat. With Arsenal having being drawn back into a battle for 4th with Everton, only Chelsea truly remain on the radar of supporters of Liverpool and Man City for the run-in – the Blues are away at Swansea City this weekend and if they take all three points and the game is drawn at Anfield, matters could become very tight indeed. The start of the game, as with all others this weekend, will be respectfully delayed for seven minutes and preceded by a minute’s silence – twenty-five years since the Hillsborough Disaster, in which ninety-six football supporters lost their lives, the football community kindly pays its respects during the weekend.
