The Redmen TV – Match Preview: Chelsea vs Liverpool

Stamford Bridge

16:00 Sunday

Sunday’s meeting between Chelsea and Liverpool is one of distantly familiar high-stakes – rivalries have perhaps been tempered since the days of Rafa Benitez and Jose Mourinho, but the return of the self-proclaimed “special one” and Liverpool’s 2013 return to form may herald more than mere nostalgia for, in particular, the travelling Kopites. The visitors have held a positional advantage over their Kings Road hosts for much of the season but find themselves a point down after a gallant Boxing Day effort against Manchester City.  Chelsea have performed efficiently this season, under the radar of many, and approach the game with 10 points from the previous five, having been frustrated by a dramatic loss to Stoke City (courtesy of on-loan Red, Oussama Assaidi) – Liverpool boast a 12 point haul and hold their heads high after the critical match at the Etihad on Thursday.  With top of the league Manchester City already having collected points, against a valiant Crystal Palace this weekend, the stakes really are high for this meeting – ever-impressive, Everton continue to snap at the heels of both sides and supporters of Chelsea and Liverpool both have eyes on maintaining contact with the league’s leaders tomorrow.
