The Redmen TV – Match Preview: Liverpool vs Cardiff City

Anfield, 12:45 Saturday

bellamy

Saturday represents the first top-flight meeting between Liverpool and Cardiff City since 1954 – the time elapsed having held very different fortunes for these two passionately supported clubs.  The Reds will be eager to get back out on the Anfield turf six days after having banished away day concerns with the 5-0 thrashing of Tottenham Hotspur (seeing Andre Villas Boas subsequently dismissed) home form has not been a worry for Liverpool supporters, Brendan Rodgers’ has seen his side collect 10 points during the last five outings.  Malky Mackay’s Bluebirds haven’t made a poor start to life in the Premier League but have perhaps just fallen short of escaping the group of sides pre-occupied with concerns of emerging from the festive season in the bottom three; their form earning them 5 points from five matches will not be satisfactory long-term, but this run has included draws with Manchester United, Stoke City, and a victory against West Bromwich Albion that cost Steve Clarke his job.  Manchester City and Everton appear likely to collect points this weekend, but with Chelsea visiting Arsenal, Liverpool supporters will be hoping to spend Christmas as the top of the Premier League table.  Supporters in the Welsh capital have much more humble ambitions but are immune from a bottom three placing, and with a victory could be within touching distance of the top-half by Boxing Day.  Both teams and their popular managers will be keen to provide Christmas cheer, rather than festive fear, ahead of the Boxing Day matches – developments in South Wales, however, have darkened the mood of Cardiff City supporters this week.
