Neither Liverpool nor West Ham United take to the Anfield pitch on Saturday in particularly good form, but the sides will feel markedly different emotions coming off the back of their previous outings during the midweek. Liverpool sustained their stay in the top four with a victory over Norwich City, owing a great debt of thanks to the peerless Luis Suarez and his four goals. West Ham sit at the opposite end of the table, just above the relegation zone, and lost to Crystal Palace on Tuesday in a game that leaves them in a perilous position as the festive season kicks into gear. Brendan Rodgers’ side face Spurs, City, and Chelsea during the next few weeks and The Reds will likely need to regain the points lost against Hull last weekend in order to remain within the top four. West Ham may have been shocked by Palace in mid-week, but things could have been an awful lot worse had they not beaten fellow strugglers Fulham last weekend. They have a tough run through December however, and will be desperate to reach the New Year’s Day encounter with The Cottagers outside of the bottom three.
